In case you didn’t know, April 22nd is Earth Day, and this is a great opportunity to adopt a few green printing habits. As a print service, there are lots of practices you can use to contribute to a green environment and keep our planet green, clean and healthy.
Use Recycled Paper
Contrary to some misconceptions, professional-grade recycled paper is not of a lower quality than traditionally manufactured paper. In fact, recycled paper has better quality grains, weights or finishes. It’s time to introduce your clients to recycled paper as it can be used for many print projects:
- Business cards and flyers. Small business owners, freelancers and independent contractors still frequently pass out business cards or flyers to prospective clients. You can offer them high quality, eye-catching printed cards and flyers using recycled paper.
- Catalogs and books. There is always a market for books, magazines and catalogs. The rise of on-demand printing solutions allows any author to print smaller numbers of copies of their book or catalog. Using recycled paper is a significant step towards making on-demand printing a sustainable practice.
- Event invitations. Weddings, birthday parties, graduations and many other occasions often come with printed invitations. The paper used for them can be fabricated with custom textures and finishes for visual appeal. Manufacturing technologies for recycled paper have evolved enough for printing services to offer a wide variety of paper colors, textures and finishes.
Use soy-based inks
Start using ink substitutes such as soy ink. Unlike traditional petroleum-based ink, soy-based ink is far more environmentally friendly. It provides more accurate colors, a sharper and brighter image, and even makes paper recycling much easier.
Offer Prints on Both Sides of the Paper
Printing on both sides of the paper eliminates waste tremendously.
Whether it’s a business proposal, a brochure or a student essay, offer your clients to print on both sides and help the environment in any way they can.
Adopting green solutions when printing is more than an option, it’s a necessity, and we should all do our part for the planet. Each and every one of us can make a small change that will ultimately make the world cleaner and healthier. All it takes is minor alterations to make a huge difference.
